NCAA volleyball: San Beda books semis ticket, fends off San Sebastian

San Beda secured a semifinals berth after beating a gutsy San Sebastian side, 25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18, in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Cesca Raqraquin unleashed a game-high 20 points, including a kill off a bad reception by Nikka Dalisay to seal the win.

The Lady Red Spikers booked a ticket to the Final Four for the second straight year.

But unlike last year, when it finished fourth, San Beda is on track to earn a twice-to-beat advantage as one of the top two teams.

“It will be a big benefit for us and we really worked hard for that,” said San Beda coach Nemesio Gavino in Filipino.

The Lady Red Spikers are currently in second place with a 7-1 record behind defending champion Arellano University (7-1), which has superior quotient.

The Lady Stags (5-3), on the other hand, were with a major blow to their semis bid.

Joyce Sta. Rita had 16 points while Daurene Santos tallied 15 for San Sebastian, which committed four errors that contributed to San Beda’s 7-0 run to end the match.
