Zark’s zaps Akari; Perpetual roasts Mila’s Lechon
CJ Perez and JC Marcelino took charge down the stretch as Zark’s-Lyceum slipped past Akari-Adamson, 83-76, on Tuesday night in a battle of fancied teams in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Perez, the reigning NCAA Most Valuable Player, hit eight of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, matching Marcelino’s output as the Jawbreakers posted their third straight victory after dropping their first outing.
Perez buried a triple from the top of the key for an 81-76 lead with less than a minute to play before sealing the match with two free throws.
Earlier, Mark Dela Virgen fired a career-high 28 points as Jose Rizal U kept its unbeaten record with a thrilling 104-103 win over Go for Gold-St. Benilde, while Perpetual Help scored a breakthrough victory at the expense of Mila’s Lechon, 65-48.
Paolo Pontejos delivered the winning basket on a driving layup with seven tenths of a second remaining for the Heavy Bombers (2-0).
