CA denies POC request for polls TRO

The Court of Appeals denied on Tuesday the request of the Philippine Olympic Committee to stop the court-ordered elections on Feb. 23.
In a four-page decision penned by Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh, the CA 11th division found no grounds for the issuance of a temporary restraining order after the Pasig City Regional Trial Court earlier ordered the POC to hold a new election for president and chair.

The RTC declared null and void the POC polls on Nov. 25, 2016 when POC head Jose Cojuangco Jr. ran unopposed to earn a fourth straight term.
Boxing chief Ricky Vargas will challenge Cojuangco.
