Air Force, UST win BVR on Tour Ilocos Sur leg

Judy Caballejo and Coyah Abanto of Air Force 1 and Henry Pecaña and KR Guzman of UST Alumni ruled the first leg of the third season of the BVR On Tour in Ilocos Sur over the weekend.

Caballejo and Abanto beat 11 other teams in the women’s division, including Team Perlas 2, a squad composed of Beach Volleyball Republic founder Bea Tan and former Adamson spiker Amanda Villanueva in the finals, 21-15, 23-21.

Pecaña and Guzman, meanwhile, emerged on top in the men’s division after turning back Jade Bacaldo and Fort Libres’ Team Univ. of Visayas, 21-18, 21-13.

It was the first BVR on Tour leg this year and it’s just the beginning of bigger things to come.

“BVR is grateful to have been a part of the Sun Soaked Beach Festival for three years in a row,” said Dzi Gervacio, BVR co-founder. “This has been the first BVR on Tour leg and we are excited to be visiting more of our country’s shores to spread our love for the sport, elevate the competition and especially grow the game of beach volleyball.”

The two winning teams took home P50,000 each.

The runners-up bagged P30,000 while the third placers Genesa Eslapor and Babylove Barbon of Team UST and Brian Nordberg and Giovanni Musillo of Hong Kong pocketed P20,000. Mark Giongco
