DALLAS—Jerwin Ancajas must have really earned the admiration of Manny Pacquiao as a fighter and as a person.
Otherwise, the eight-division world champion and Philippine senator would not be too keen on following up the progress of his training for the defense of his International Boxing Federation junior bantamweight crown against Mexican Israel Gonzalez on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In an interview with Corpus Christi Caller Times Tuesday, Ancajas bared that Pacquiao sent him a message: “Good work, do you best and call to God.”
On Wednesday evening, Ancajas and Gonzalez will have a meet-and-greet with the fans at Dr. Rockit’s Bar & Saloon to drum up interest for the 12-round bout to be aired by ESPN.
Ancajas said he’ll pour out everything so as not to disappoint Pacquiao and the Filipino people.
