The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) dealt the Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF) another blow.
After suspending all financial assistance over alleged misappropriation of government funds, the PSC has indefinitely suspended its recognition of PKF as the sport’s national association.
The PSC Task Force, created by the board of commissioners to review the complaint lodged by the athletes, noted “inconsistencies” in the liquidation report submitted by PKF secretary general Raymund Lee Reyes.
In a statement, the PSC said the suspension included the withdrawal of NSA privileges such as the use of Philsports facilities.
The PSC, headed by Chair Butch Ramirez, said it would also wait for the findings of the National Bureau of Investigation, which had similarly been conducting an investigation on the matter.
Despite the controversy, the PSC assured that it “will continue its support for our national athletes.”
The karatekas are currently under the supervision of technical director Marc Velasco of the Philippine Sports Institute following another earlier decision of the PSC to suspend all national team coaches.
Last month, 18 Nationals led by Asian Games bronze medalist Mae Soriano signed a manifesto expressing their loss of confidence in the PKF leadership under president Joey Romasanta and Reyes.
