UE should have a ‘win now’ mentality, says Adorador

University of the East’s turbulent start in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament continued after its fourth straight setback.

The loss to Ateneo in four sets, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14, was even more disappointing for the Lady Warriors since they failed to sustain their momentum after a stellar opening set.

Shaya Adorador said UE has to snap out of its underdog mentality and have the initiative to start thinking about winning and nothing less in the midway point of the first round.

“Right now we’re winless and our objective is to get out of that mentality that we still haven’t won a game,” said Adorador in Filipino. “We need to change our mentality.”

“Our attitude right now should be that we have to win immediately instead of just fighting.”

Adorador said what hampered their development against the Lady Eagles was their reckless offensive play that resulted to 25 errors, although that mark is eight less than what Ateneo committed.

Another aspect of the game that broke down UE was its porous defense allowing Ateneo to score 11 service aces and 48 scoring spikes.

Adorador said they have to try harder to win however way they can.

“We won’t give up, we’ll study every opponent that comes our way and we will fight,” said Adorador who had 14 points against the Lady Eagles.
