Pacres redeems self in UST win over Adamson

Dimdim Pacres finally got her shot at redemption for University of Santo Tomas.

Taking up the role of the injured rookie Milena Alessandrini, Pacres showed once more that she is a reliable force for the Golden Tigresses.

Pacres finished with 13 points, almost double than what she averaged in her last three games, helping the Golden Tigresses sweep of Adamson University, 25-9, 31-29, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.

“I had to step up and I was really frustrated the past few days because I really can’t bring my game back,” said Pacres in Filipino Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre. “Then, the coaches worked me out because that’s the one thing I don’t do every morning.”

“I really waited for my play to return because I’ve been playing really badly and I felt that I wasn’t making a proper contribution.”

Pacres was averaging only 6.7 points a game coming into the game as she struggled to find her niche since Alessandrini, who is recovering from an injury on her right shoulder, became the team’s immediate second option behind Cherry Rondina.

The fun-loving Pacres said she reminded herself constantly that she will be able to bounce back and prove that she is a big help for UST.

“Coach (Kung Fu Reyes) was always grilling me because I wasn’t playing that well and I’m one of the key players but I failed tom make an impact,” said Pacres. “I would just tell myself that I will be back.”
