National University kept its immaculate slate after downing University of Santo Tomas in four sets, 25-19, 14-25, 25-19, 28-26, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

The league-leading Lady Bulldogs improved to a perfect 5-0 while the Golden Tigresses dropped to 2-3.

After Cherry Rondina tied the fourth set at 25-25, Audrey Paran unwittingly gave UST the 26-25 set point after her hit went out.

Jaja Santiago then, went to work for NU finishing a through-the-block kill for the 26-26 tie, and Risa Sato scored a block off Rondina’s attempt.

Santiago said it was her team’s character that helped them keep UST at bay.

“The grit, the trust with each other, I saw that in this game,” said Santiago. “Those two traits are what I like about our team and when I say that I won’t let them lose they will follow, like a domino effect.”

“Our character is really that strong.”

Santiago finished with 19 points to lead NU while Aiko Urdas had 10.

Rondina was the game’s top scorer with 25 points for UST while Carla Sandoval added 12.
