MANILA, Philippines—University of Perpetual Help System Dalta survived its biggest test, subduing erstwhile co-leader Emilio Aguinaldo College, 28-26, 25-17, 16-25, 22-25, 15-12 (3-2) and wresting the solo lead in the National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament at the Letran Gym.
It was the fifth straight victory for the Lady Altas, who rallied from 2-5 in the fifth set before finally taking the lead at 11-10 on two quick kills by Sandra delos Santos.
Janice Abar and Honey Royce Tubino then join hands with Delos Santos in handing the Lady Generals their first loss in five games.
Defending men’s champion Perpetual Altas also prevailed, downing the Generals, 25-10, 25-16, 25-15, to stay unbeaten in four games.
In the juniors side, the EAC Brigadiers outplayed the Perpetual Junior Altas, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22.
In the other women’s match, the Arellano Lady Chiefs rode on the superb setting of Mary Jane Diane Ticar and the late-game heroics of Girly Beltran and Angelica Legacion to turn back the CSB Lady Blazers in four sets, 13-25, 25-13, 25-20, 26-24 (3-1).
With the win, the Lady Chiefs climbed to solo second at 3-2, while the loss sent the Lady Blazers near the bottom at 1-4.
