Defending champs F2 Logistics wastes little time crushing Smart

Defending champion F2 Logistics was in no mood to take it easy against overmatched newcomer Smart Prepaid Thursday night.
The Cargo Movers fired away unflinchingly against a Giga Hitters squad relying solely on Cuban Gyselle Silva to score a 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 for their second win in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at FilOil Flying V Centre.
“It doesn’t matter which opponent we play; we have to play at our best and keep on improving every game,” said last year’s MVP Maria Jose Perez. “Every game is important for us.”
F2 Logistics proved it had the bite to back up that bark, raining down its serves on the 6-foot-3 Silva, who was also on the receiving end of most of F2’s 10 kill blocks.
“We try to keep a positive mind,” said the low-key Venezuelan spiker. “One thing going for the team is that we have a good chemistry and communications inside.”
Indeed, the Cargo Movers were able to quickly shake off the Giga Hitters’ strong start that allowed the debuting team to post a 13-10 lead in the opening frame.
But F2 Logistics soon caught up, unleashing a strong windup through a Kim Fajardo kill-block on Silva and a Perez slam for a 20-17 lead.
“We still need to improve on a lot of things especially in controlling our errors and we have to find balance in our game,” added Perez who finished with 15 points including three blocks.
Though missing key players who are playing for La Salle in the UAAP, F2 outscored Smart, 75-57, but thrived most on net defense (10-3) and service game (8-4 in aces).
