Alab breaks ABL scoring record in rout of Saigon

Alab Pilipinas ended its two-game slump and unleashed a blistering 126-100 win over Saigon Heat in the ASEAN Basketball League Wednesday night at USEP Gym in Davao.

The Filipinos’ 126 points were the most in league history, overtaking the previous record of 120 points that Hong Kong set back in December of 2017.

Alab also tied the league record of 18 three-pointers that the Heat recorded earlier this season.

The Filipinos’ dropped the napalm as early as the first half when they went from down 24-19 in the opening quarter to take a 50-31 lead which Justin Brownlee capped off with a three-pointer at the 5:58 mark of the second period.

Alab improved to the third seed with 12-6 record, giving them a mathematical chance of getting a semifinal bye.

The Filipinos now have to win their remaining two games and hope for the other teams to lose if they want to take either the first or second seed.

Renaldo Balkman led Alab with 30 points and seven board, Brownlee went 6-of-7 from deep and finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Pamboy Raymundo added 13 points off the bench.
