UAAP football: UP advances to Final Four, downs NU

University of the Philippines grabbed the first Final Four seat after topping National University, 2-0, in the UAAP Season 80 men’s football tournament Sunday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

JB Borlongan broke the 86-minute stalemate, putting the Fighting Maroons ahead, 1-0, before King Miyagi gave UP its second goal a minute later.

The Fighting Maroons remained unbeaten in the tournament and are into their eighth straight semifinals stint after scoring 26 points at this point of the season.

Ateneo also pulled off a 2-0 victory on Sunday after brushing off University of Santo Tomas.

Jarvey Gayoso found his 13th goal of the season in the 13th minute to give the Blue Booters a 1-0 lead before Koko Gaudiel’s goal 86th minute sealed Ateneo’s 25th point of the tournament and bring the defending champions one step closer to the semifinals.

In the final game, Jeremiah Bernaldez delivered the goods for De La Salle in a 1-0 victory over Far Eastern University.
