Player of the Week: No stopping Fajardo
June Mar Fajardo couldn’t be stopped in San Miguel’s semifinals series against Barangay Ginebra as he led the Beermen to their fourth straight Philippine Cup Finals.
Fajardo dominated the Gin Kings especially in Games 4 and 5 where he played like the four-time PBA MVP that he is.
The Cebuano center, who was named PBA Press Corps Player of the Week, averaged 20.7 points and 12.7 rebounds in the last two games of the series to knock off Ginebra in five games.
The 28-year-old Fajardo posted 14 points and 13 rebounds in San Miguel’s 102-81 rout in Game 4 before unleashing 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, nine rebounds, three assists and a block in the close out game on Saturday.
The Beermen, who are eyeing a historic fourth consecutive all-Filipino crown, will face either No. 2 Magnolia or NLEX in a best-of-seven finals series.
The Hotshots go for the last championship berth in Game 6 on Tuesday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fajardo’s teammates Alex Cabagnot, Arwind Santos and Marcio Lassiter were also considered for the weekly citation.
