La Salle still favored despite absent star

MANILA, Philippines—La Salle may miss a vital cog, but the Lady Archers remain favored to pick up their fifth straight triumph against winless University of the Philippines in the UAAP women’s volleyball at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Even if Camille Cruz remains a doubtful starter, the defending champion Lady Archers still boast a formidable roster with top blocker Michelle Gumabao, attacker Abigail Maraño, setter Mika Esperanza, Cha Cruz, Mika Reyes and Ara Galang at the helm.
Article continues after this advertisementCruz recently hurt her knee in a bad fall during the third set of the Lady Archers’ grueling five-set victory, 25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 23-25, 15-11, over Far Eastern University.
University of Santo Tomas, which relinquished the crown to the Lady Archers last season, seeks a third straight win against the University of the East at 3:30 p.m.
In men’s action, the unbeaten Tamaraws also target to extend their streak to five against the winless Warriors at 10:30 a.m.
