Adamson sophomore hitter Chiara Permentilla missed her second straight game in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball on Wednesday due to a left ankle sprain.
Lady Falcons head coach Airess Padda decided to sit out Permentilla against National U, saying that she didn’t want to risk aggravating her player’s injury, even if she had the option of using her as libero.
“Her ankle is still swollen, the flexibility is not there yet,” said Padda after their four-set win over the Lady Bulldogs, 25-19, 25-15, 18-25, 25-13 at Filoil Flying V Centre.
“We didn’t want to risk putting her on defense or doing something like that, we didn’t want to risk that.”
Permentilla, who is averaging 9.5 points per game, sprained her left ankle in practice almost a week before Adamson faced NU.
She showed up to the game wearing a pair of joggers and a blue t-shirt but she was free from the brace she wore in the Lady Falcons’ previous game against University of the East.
Bernadette Flora, meanwhile, was put in Permentilla’s place and although she wasn’t able to score, Eli Soyud had her back with four points.
“We let Eli handle the responsibility and Flora who came in and did an amazing job on defense, that’s what we decided to do today,” said Padda as her team improved to 5-5 while remaining in the fifth seed.
