Batang Gilas Pilipinas bowed to the mighty Australia, 82-52, Wednesday in the 2018 FIBA Asia U-16 Championship in Foshan, China.
The national youth team tried to stay in step with the powerhouse Boomers in the first quarter, but ultimately lost grip of the game in the second quarter and fell behind by as much as 82-51 late in the game.
McLaude Guadaña led the Philippines with 11 points and three rebounds, while RC Calimag chimed in 10 markers and three boards.
Kai Sotto added nine points, four rebounds, an assist, and a steal, while Yukien Andrada had eight markers and five boards in the defeat.
The Philippines dropped to 1-1 in the preliminaries to end up at second place in Group B. It still moves on to the quarterfinals, where it will meet Hong Kong on Thursday.
Jay Rantall paced Australia with 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists, Kobe Williamson got 14 markers, five boards, two steals, and two blocks, and Luke Travers had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Australia asserted its dominance as it controlled the boards, 51-33, and forced the Philippines to commit 26 turnovers, which led to 26 points in its favor.
