National University ended a five-game losing skid after scraping past much-improved University of the East, 26-24, 26-24, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday bat Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Jaja Santiago and Risa Sato showed the way for the Lady Bulldogs, who assured themselves at least a playoff for the last Final Four spot.
“I’m happy to see that we’re slowly regaining our teamwork and our game is starting to show,” said Santiago in Filipino. “We can still be better but at least we played a good game.”
Santiago fired a game-high 22 points while Sato added 13 points, including nine attacks, two blocks and two service aces.
With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs also eliminated University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas from semifinals contention.
Mary Ann Mendrez paced also-ran UE with 14 points while Shaya Adorador chipped in 11.
