De La Salle reserve May Luna doesn’t get the same recognition like her more famous teammates, but she doesn’t shy away from the limelight when head coach Ramil De Jesus comes calling.
The third year outside hitter rose to the occasion for the Lady Spikers as she produced her best game of the second round as La Salle locked up the no. 1 seed of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at the expense of Adamson University, 25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 25-18.
Luna had nine points, her best offensive output since her 12-point game against National University in the first round, as she became a spark of De Jesus’ bench.

“I just kept on thinking that I will fight the moment coach Ramil puts me in,” said Luna in Filipino Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
“I never thought that I’m just a reserve, I’m thinking that I’m the chosen one,” joked Luna as teammate Kianna Dy also let out a laugh.
Dy, who had 17 points against the Lady Falcons, knew that it was just a matter of time before Luna got her moment under the sun.
“May is a really hard worker, you can see her on training that she’s very aggressive and you saw that in the game earlier,” said Dy in Filipino. “She’s always ready once she gets inside the floor. She’s eager to kill the ball, she’s a really good player so you guys better watch out.”
Luna got her highlight play in the fourth set when she powered home a back row kill that gave the Lady Spikers a 21-17 lead.
“If I’m given a chance, I will make sure to grab it,” said Luna.
