Multi-titled mentor Ramil de Jesus is back in charge as the new head coach of the Philippine women’s national volleyball team.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) officials led by vice president Peter Cayco made everything official on Friday afternoon before the national team tryouts at Arellano Gym.
De Jesus, who has been a winner in every level he’s been in, last handled the national team back in 2005, when he steered the Philippines to a bronze medal in the Southeast Asian Games.
He was set to handle the squad in 2015 before Philippine volleyball underwent a change in leadership.
De Jesus welcomed the turnout for the tryouts, with 16 of the 34 invitees showing up for the session. However, he remains hopeful that more invitees will be able to show up the next time around.
“Alanganin yung time ng tryout. Hopefully next time, makarating yung iba,” he said.
De Jesus is also keeping his fingers crossed that this will be the first step for the long-desired harmony in Philippine volleyball, saying: “Ano na lang ang mangyayari kung di tayo magkakaisa?”
The national team is preparing for the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia in August and the 2018 AVC Asian Women’s Cup in Thailand in September.
