Racela believes Romeo more than just scoring: ‘He’s one of best passers in the PBA’

Known for his handles and scoring, Terrence Romeo has already established himself as one of the most elite offensive players in the PBA today.

But as far as TNT head coach Nash Racela is concerned, there’s more to Romeo than ankle breakers and buckets.

“I’ve always believed Terrence is one of the best passers in the league,” said Racela on Saturday after the KaTropa lost to Barangay Ginebra in a scrimmage.

Racela and Romeo go way back as a player-coach tandem at Far Eastern University. Racela made his head-coaching debut in the UAAP in 2013, which was also Romeo’s final collegiate season.

And that’s likely why Racela sees Romeo differently.

“People always talk about him shooting the ball, but the way I see him play, he’s one of the better passers we have that’s why I encourage him to just make the right decisions,” Racela said.

Offense is not an area of concern for TNT with the likes of Jayson Castro, Troy Rosario and Roger Pogoy in tow. Import Jeremy Tyler is also very much capable of scoring inside and out.

It could be the best time for Romeo to validate Racela’s point.

“Important is if you see a shot, then shoot it, if you see a pass, pass it. He’s one of those guards who could really get you the ball if he wants to.”
