04:56 AM April 16, 2018

Daniel “Danby” Henares was right on target in the 2018 Quarter Benchrest Rifle Championship, nailing gold and silver medals at Fort Bonifacio firing range in Taguig City.

Henares, assistant team manager of San Miguel Beer in the PBA, scored 720 points to top the Heavy Varmint class in the Philippine National Shooting Association competition.

Relishing strong opposition, Henares rose to the occasion.

“I always worry when a lot of shooters sign up,” said Henares, noting that Benchrest rifle shooters are renowned for their accuracy, being required to shoot a 1-mm bull’s-eye at 50 meters.  “But I was very fortunate to lead after the first shooting card.”

“The wind is the only enemy for a well tuned rifle and it started to blow by the third and last shooting card,” added Henares, who added a silver medal in the light Varmint class.
