Gina Iniong put the lessons of her last defeat to good use, beating Jenny Huang via unanimous decision in the preliminary bouts of ONE: Heroes of Honor Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Team Lakay atomweight bounced back from her loss to Mei Yamaguchi last November and clipped her Taiwanese opponent in a grueling three-round match.
Iniong was on-point for the whole fight, but made her mark with a superb right straight which floored Huang. Though Huang tried to bring the match to the mat, the Igorot bet was able to squeak her way out of danger and connect with her strikes up to the third round.
With the win, Iniong improved to 7-3 and put herself once again in the conversation for possible challengers to ONE Women’s Atomweight Champion Angela Lee.
Huang, meanwhile, suffered her third straight defeat to fall to 5-3.
In the curtain raiser, Adrian Mattheis (5-3) also extended his winning streak to three, besting Lan Ming Qiang (1-3) via unanimous decision.
The Indonesian strawweight controlled the tempo for the whole three rounds, imposing his will on a full mount as his Chinese foe desperately tried to stay in the match.
