Kickboxers, muay thai specialist shine in ONE Super Series
Top fighters in their respective disciplines took center stage and impressed in the launch of the ONE Super Series on Friday at ONE: Heroes of Honor at Mall of Asia Arena.
Giorgio Petrosyan (96-2-2, 1 NC) triumphed over Jo Nattawut (66-7-2) via unanimous decision in what was an exciting kickboxing bout.
Article continues after this advertisementThe two showcased the absolute best of what the sport of kickboxing has to offer, putting on a show in a highly-physical three-round affair in front of an adoring Manila crowd.
“I’m so happy to win. It’s always nice to win here in Manila. I said that it will be a very nice fight that I will show here in Manila and so, it has been. I hope you liked it,” said the two-time K-1 World Max Champion from Italy.
Muay Thai champion Nong-o Gaiyanghadao (256-54-1) also stamped his class against Fabio Pinca (99-24-4), emerging with the triumph via unanimous decision in what was a hard-hitting affair between the top two contenders of the sport.
Article continues after this advertisementCosmo Alexandre (69-18-1) unleashed a masterful striking display to cut Elliot Compton (45-12) down to size with a knockout victory in their muay thai showdown.
The Brazilian Alexandre unfurled a thunderous two-punch combo before finishing off his Australian opponent with solid knee to the midsection to end the bout at the 2:41 mark of round two.
In the final match of the preliminaries, Dutch kickboxer Regian Eersel (50-4) also clipped Kiwi foe Brad Riddell (59-9) via unanimous decision.
It was the promotion’s formal unveiling of the ONE Super Series, where the best athletes in the world of kickboxing and muay thai are set to face off in the ONE stage.
The promotion is looking forward on staging other ONE Super Series bouts for other martial arts disciplines such as karate, taekwondo, kung fu, wushu, sanda, silat, lethwei, and the like in the next fightcards.
