Former national boxing coach and two-time Olympian Leopoldo Cantancio died in a motorcycle accident on Friday night. He was 54.

Cantancio, who finished tied for 5th in the men’s lightweight division of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, was driving home to Bago City from Bacolod where he coached a team in the Panaad Boxing Tournament.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas, also president of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines, expressed his sympathies to Cantancio’s family.

Cantancio won a bronze medal in the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul and got a silver in the 1990 Asiad in Beijing.
