Jiujitsu champ, MMA star lead fitness wave
When not busy strangling rivals, world jiujitsu champion Margarita Ochoa joins events that promote awareness against child abuse. During the recent “Fitstrong” event at Bonifacio Global City amphitheater in Taguig, Ochoa and fellow national team members taught basic jiujitsu lessons. “We use martial arts as a tool to build awareness against sexual and commercial exploitation” said Ochoa, whose recent win was at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiujitsu World Tour held in London. The weekend activity focused on health and wellness with participants also taking part in yoga, Zumba and dance classes. A virtual cycling challenge was likewise conducted in line with triathlon event Tri Factor Asian Series to be held at Camsur Watersports Complex in Naga on May 25 to 27. Ochoa’s fellow Under Armour ambassador and mixed martial arts champion, Mark “Mugen” Striegl, hosted the event. —JAN JAIME DELOS SANTOS, CONTRIBUTOR
