Benilde wins Filoil opener, Mapua wins back-to-back

College of St. Benilde scored a massive win in its opening game after ripping Jose Rizal, 104-83, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Blazers also prevented the Heavy Bombers from tallying their first win in the summer league and dropped to 0-2 in Group B.

Yankie Haruna had 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals while James Pasturan and Edward Docon had 13 points apiece.

The Blazers immediately went straight to work and ran through the Heavy Bombers with a 32-13 first quarter that eventually became the foundation for their victory.

In the second game, Mapua held on against Emilio Aguinaldo College, 77-74, for its second straight win

The Cardinals have a 2-0 record to tie De La Salle in the second spot of Group A while the Generals are at 0-1.

Mapua held a 62-51 lead after the third quarter but relinquished much of that to the Generals who outscored the Cardinals 23-15 in the fourth.

Christian Bunag had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cardinals while Lawrence Vcitoria put up 14 points, four rebounds, and six assists.

John Paul Maguliano had a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double for the Generals.
