Jeson Patrombon and Marian Capadocia survived classic three-setters against top-seeded foes on Sunday to rule their respective divisions in the PPS-PEPP MAC’s Crankit Open Tennis Championships at PCA courts in Paco, Manila.

The 25-year-old Patrombon won the last two sets over Davis Cup teammate Johnny Arcilla for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph and the men’s Open singles crown worth P100,000.

Capadocia, on the other hand, outlasted Khim Iglupas in a nip-and-tuck finale, pulling out a 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(5) decision for the women’s Open diadem worth P50,000.
Patrombon and Capadocia also ruled the Brookside Open in Cainta, Rizal, two weeks ago, downplaying their dominance of practically the same field.

“These two should inspire the young players that through hard work and determination, one can overcome even the toughest of odds,” said Palawan Pawnshop president and COO Bobby Castro.

Capadocia won the first two games of the deciding set only for Iglupas to take the game back to serve by winning the next two.
