Mondilla-Hechanova fancied to rule National Pro-AM
Reigning Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit champion Clyde Mondilla’s partnership with Jeric Hechanova is one of the teams to watch in the Delimondo National Pro-am, with Mondilla also hoping to use the tournament to snap out of a string of disappointing finishes early in the Philippine Golf Tour.
Mondilla, who won four events to clinch the Order of Merit crown in the PGT last year, has turned in mediocre showings in the new season, missing the cut in the kickoff leg ruled by Dutchman Guido Van der Valk at Eagle Ridge last March and finishing tied for 31st in the first leg of the second PGT Asia topped by Aussie David Gleeson.
But he hopes to break that spell with a victory this week while partnering with Hechanova at Splendido in Taal, with his amateur partner exuding a lot of confidence.
“With Clyde’s 320-yard-plus drives, I expect to use shot irons. And he can easily reach the par-5s with his second shots from my drive,” said Hechanova.
