First-choice import finally suits up as NLEX tests Rain or Shine’s early success
NLEX parades a new import in Arnett Moultrie on Wednesday as the Road Warriors hope to bounce back from a forgettable PBA Commissioner’s Cup debut and test what streaking Rain or Shine is really made of at Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Moultrie, an NBA veteran with the Philadelphia 76ers, arrived just in time for a workout with the Road Warriors, who slug it out with the Elasto Painters in the 7 p.m. contest where NLEX seeks to snap Rain or Shine’s two-game winning streak.
Moultrie is NLEX’s original import choice but came in late because of playing commitments in Bahrain. And this is exactly why coach Yeng Guiao believes that their fortunes here will turn around quickly.
“We feel he can help the team because he is fit enough to play having come from a competitive tournament in Bahrain,” Guiao said. “He also has the quickness and versatility we need out of our big men.”
Rain or Shine will be coming off victories over Alaska and Barangay Ginebra and its import, the burly Reggie Johnson, showed his true worth in their conquest of the Gin Kings last Sunday with 32 points and 22 rebounds.
But coach Caloy Garcia is not about to concede that their 2-0 start is all about Johnson.
“For as long as we move the ball well, find open shots and make them, I think we will be doing well this conference,” Garcia said.
Meanwhile, Bong Ramos makes his coaching debut with Blackwater in the 4:15 p.m. contest when the Elite battle GlobalPort.
