Senator Joel Villanueva expressed on Thursday his fiery praises on the efforts of the San Miguel Alab Pilipinas team, which clinched the ASEAN Basketball League title with a Game 5 victory over Thailand’s Mono Vampire.
In a tweet, Villanueva – himself an ardent basketball player – commended Alab Pilipinas’ 102-92 win at the Sta. Rosa Multipurpose Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
“Congratulations, Alab Pilipinas! We are the Champions!” Villanueva tweeted.

Villanueva, vice chair of the Senate Committee on Sports, also said the team’s triumph is a testament to the world-class talent of Filipinos.
“San Miguel Alab Pilipinas team gave us reasons why we should be proud as Filipinos. Their victory attests to the hard work, determination, and greatness of our athletes,” he noted.
“Mabuhay po ang bawat atletang Pilipino!” Villanueva further said.
Villanueva was a former cager for the University of Santo Tomas (UST). He was part of the Growling Tigers team that won the UAAP crown in 1994 and 1995. /kga
