Ceres-Negros trips Davao, clinches 5th straight win

Defending champion Ceres-Negros streaked to its fifth straight victory at the expense of the Davao Aguilas, 2-0, on Wednesday in the Philippines Football League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Goals from Bienve Marañon and Mike Ott gave the Busmen maximum points as they stayed unbeaten, while pinning a first loss on the Aguilas.

Marañon scored in the 42nd minute, chipping the ball past Nick O’Donnel, while Ott struck early in the second half, following up his saved effort by firing into an empty net.

Goalkeeper Toni Doblas produced a couple of spectacular saves following Ott’s goal, preserving the clean sheet for Ceres, which turns its focus on the AFC Cup Asean zone semifinals against Yangon United on May 9 and 16.

Davao remained in second spot with 11 points on three wins and two draws.

Meanwhile, the league announced that it had canceled the match between Kaya Iloilo and Global Cebu at Iloilo Sports Complex due to “unfortunate circumstances.”

“The status of the match will be decided by the LFI Board of Directors,” the league said.
