Vic Manuel heated up in the second quarter and Alaska bludgeoned Columbian, 134-103, to score its second straight win in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The hardworking forward accounted for almost half of the Aces’ production in the killer second quarter, going for 20 points in that period alone to dismantle the Dyip by halftime, 73-37.

Manuel finished with 26 points on a 12-of-17 shooting from the field off the bench, to go with four rebounds, while import Antonio Campbell got a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

The duo were responsible for Alaska outscoring Columbian in that telling frame, 42-9, while also getting things done on defense and holding the Dyip to a forgettable 18-percent clip.

“The guys played so well in the second quarter and we’re just trying to avoid any third quarter meltdown,” said coach Alex Compton. “The entire team played defense, moved the ball well, and we forced them to miss some shots that got us some easy baskets. The defensive activities that we did, I think gave us the game.”

Nonoy Baclao took advantage of the extended garbage time and had 12 points, nine boards, and five assists, Chris Banchero added his nine points, four rebounds, and a whopping 13 assists while Calvin Abueva did the dirty work with eight points, seven boards, two assists, as a steal and a block.

Alaska hiked its record to 2-1, while evening up the Columbian’s record to 2-2.

Bailey John Fields had 39 points, 16 rebounds, and two assists in his debut for the Dyip, while Eric Camson and Reden Celda both had 10 in the defeat.
