Creamline freezes PetroGazz to secure opening win
Creamline crushed PetroGazz, 25-18, 25-16, 25-13, at the start of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Cool Smashers never relinquished the lead against the Angels in all of the three sets they played in the opening day of the tournament.
Article continues after this advertisementAlthough the Angels managed to score two straight points late in the third set that cut the deficit to six, 18-12, the Cool Smashers’ lead were never threatened.
Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, and Kuttika Kaewpin had two points apiece in Creamline’s 6-1 game-closing run that put the Cool Smashers at the 24-13 match point.
Despite the dominant victory, Creamline captain Alyssa Valdez said there was still a tinge of unease as the last organized volleyball game they’ve played was back in October.
Article continues after this advertisement“There was still some nervousness because it’s been a long time since we’ve played in a tournament,” said Valdez. “But coach Tai [Bundit] prepared us well so we hope we can be consistent and this lasts until the end of the tournament.”
An error from PetroGazz’ Anastasiia Trach eventually finished the game off in favor of the Cool Smashers.
Kaewpin led all scorers with 17 points for Creamline while Valdez and Michele Gumabao had 14 and nine points, respectively.
Kadi Kullerkann led the Angels with 11 points.
