Mayweather expects ‘exciting’ Pacquiao-Matthysse fight

Pacquiao, Matthysse face the press in Kuala Lumpur.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. expects a “very exciting” title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse set on July 15 at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Pacquiao chose Matthysse, who is the current WBA welterweight champion, for his ring return a year after losing the WBO welterweight title to Jeff Horn in a highly-disputed decision in Brisbane, Australia.

“That’s a good matchup. Very exciting fight,” Mayweather told ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo early Tuesday morning upon his arrival in Manila on board his private jet.

“Manny Pacquiao, Lucas Matthysse, great fighters, great matchup, both former world champions so it should be a very, very good fight,” he added.

The 39-year-old Pacquiao has his work cut out for him against Matthysse, who possesses power on both hands having won 36 of his 39 victories by knockout against only four losses.

Pacquiao had also described Matthysse as a “dangerous” fighter.

Mayweather is in town for vacation. Before heading to the Philippines, Mayweather has been to Dubai, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
