Import likes what she saw in Iriga-Navy’s PVL opening win

Both Iriga and Philippine Navy haven’t had the best of histories in the Premier Volleyball League with championships eluding both teams so far.

The Lady Oragons’ first foray into the league in 2016 saw them become afterthoughts while Navy failed to capture the same glory as its land-based counterpart Philippine Army which had won two titles in the league.

But when the two teams merged together to form one volleyball club at the start of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, its import believes it could be a start of the emergence of the Lady Oragons into relevance.

“I think having the two imports is really beneficial, we bring in a new style to Iriga and Navy,” said Macy Ubben after the their 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19 win over BaliPure Wednesday.

Ubben had 27 points in her debut match for the Lady Oragons, while her fellow import Lauren Whyte added 17.

The former Panther from University of Northern Iowa added she already saw the discipline from her teammates and it’s that mental attitude that would help them go further in the tournament.

“I thought we did well for our first game, there were definitely some things that I think we have to work on,” said Ubben. “Playing a team that’s disciplined really kind of brought those out.”
