In the age of super teams, being part of one has crossed Willie Cauley-Stein’s mind.
But unlike the fancied roster in Golden State and Houston, the super team Cauley-Stein thinks that could be formed is a squad made up of former Kentucky Wildcats.
“That’s crazy. I literally just asked (Devin) Booker about that three weeks ago,” the Sacramento Kings center said on Tuesday during his media availability, referring to his former Kentucky teammate and Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker.
Cauley-Stein is among the 28 active players in the NBA that came out of University of Kentucky. He played three years at Kentucky before being selected sixth overall pick by the Kings in the 2015 NBA Draft that featured a record of six Wildcats picked.
Booker and All-Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns were also drafted in the same class as Cauley-Stein with Towns going at No. 1.
Aside from Booker, who once scored 70 points in an NBA game last year, and Towns, the NBA is littered with star caliber players from University of Kentucky, with the likes of Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Rajon Rondo and John Wall.
“I think we should get a super team together,” said Cauley-Stein.
Cauley-Stein said being drafted along with his college teammates made him realize how special their team was especially having a coach like John Calipari.
“Just being part of that is crazy. Especially growing up where I grew up in Kansas, we didn’t even know who John Calipari was. It’s crazy,” he said.
“Once I got there, saw everything that he’s accomplished, all the players he’s produced, I really felt that I got to go here and got to be coached by this guy. He’s gonna get me to the next level and being part of that legacy is crazy.”
