Children’s Games gets going near PH Rise event

CASIGURAN, Aurora— Over 200 kids from 18 villages in this coastal town participated in the Children’s Games for Peace, a spectacle that coincided with a historic event.

“This Sports for Peace program is focused on inspiring children to experience play and sports while teaching them early that no matter your belief, anyone can play with each other,” said Philippine Sports Commission Chair Butch Ramirez. “In this competition, peace always wins.”

As the event unfolded, President Duterte presided over the first anniversary of the renaming of the Benham Rise, a seismically active undersea region, to Philippine Rise.

“The Philippine Rise is all about peace and through sports, we would like to maintain peace,” said Ramirez.

Casiguran Mayor Ricardo Bitong expressed his gratitude to the PSC for staging the Games, saying it “is the first step in producing more sports-centered programs” here.

The event featured traditional games for children aged eight to 12 years.

Ramirez and Bitong are also discussing the possible staging of the Indigenous People’s Games in the province late this year.
