GlobalPort dumps struggling NLEX for third win

GlobalPort crushed NLEX, 116-94, to get its third win in four games in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Batang Pier improved to a 3-2 record while sending the Road Warriors to their fourth loss in five games.

From a 32-32 stalemate early in the second quarter, the Batang Pier immediately rushed into open water and staged a 16-5 run with Sean Anthony capping off the scoring burst with a layup to give Globalport a 48-37 lead with 3:22 left in the period.

Anthony then had his once more on ending a scoring run when he sunk two free throws at the 8:56 mark of the fourth to end the Batang Pier’s 29-14 burst for their 95-75 lead.

“Actually we just played good basketball, our shooting percentage was high and at the same time we defended well,” said Globalport head coach Pido Jarencio.

“We just have to play with more consistency, and we just played really good defense and the result was a quick offense. Everything fell down and it was all about defense.”

The Batang Pier held the Road Warriors to 29-of-59 shooting including 8-of-23 from deep while tallying a clip of 36-of-60 overall.

Globaport also muscled their way in the paint outrebounding NLEX 54-45.

Anthony had a team-high 21 points to go along seven rebounds to lead Globalport’s offense while Malcolm White, who played through back spasms, finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Stanley Pringle filled the stat sheets for the Batang Pier with 19 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and five steals.

Kiefer Ravena finised with 24 points to lead the Road Warriors while Arnett Moultrie had 19 points and 10 boards.
