NCAA Mancom shares blessing with young orphans

MANILA, Philippines—Members of the Management Committee of the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) took time out from their busy schedule to personally donate sacks of rice, canned goods, toys and other gifts to children in the Hospicio de San Jose as part of the league’s outreach program.

The activity was attended by Mancom chair Dr. Ramon Cercado of Perpetual Help, Henry Atayde of College of St. Benilde, Kenneth Cariaso of Emilio Aguinaldo College, Hector Callanta of Lyceum and Peter Cayco of Arellano.

The visit was arranged by Cayco’s wife Grace, who is Arellano’s head of personnel services.

Also providing inspiration were volleyball players from Arellano, Perpetual and Lyceum.

They were welcomed by Hospicio directress Sis. Socorro Evidente and some 50 children, who performed song and dance numbers.

Rina Sta. Maria, Arellano Dean of Student Affairs, emceed the two-hour program, which culminated with the giving of gifts.

In his closing speech, Atayde told the children that “we came here to give back something to you, but in fact, you were the ones who gave us more.”

“As we leave, we will carry with us your cheerful faces and the inspiration that you have given us for today,” said Atayde.
