Former national team star Norman Fegidero summoned his vintage form to lead Bacolod United to the men’s 40-above division crown in the 5th Ceres Cup on Saturday in Bacolod City.
Fegidero, the star of the country’s stunning 1-0 win over Malaysia in the 1991 Southeast Asian Games in Manila, grabbed a hat trick in United’s 4-0 victory over FootballStory of South Korea in the final to also earn the Most Valuable Player award.
The 40-above division final highlighted the first day of the largest 7-a-side football festival in the country that drew 532 teams across 14 divisions.
Bayawan FC topped the boys’ 17-under division at the expense of Bago City with Kyle Tuvalles winning MVP honors, while Sta. Barbara FC, led by Marilou Soriano, copped the women’s 18-under title after beating Miriam College in the finals.
The girls’ 13-under title went to University of Southern Philippines FC of Cebu, which prevailed over Classico de San Carlos in the finals, while Don Bosco Cebu claimed the boys’ 14-under crown over Sagay City FC. Von Pacana took MVP honors in the division.
Mano Simpao was adjudged MVP after leading Ateneo de Manila to the title in the mixed
9-U division, where Classico de San Carlos and Sagay finished second and third, respectively. Bago City ruled the boys’ 12-U division with Earl Sinionigue winning the MVP award. —CEDELF P. TUPAS
