Ceres has eyes on lead

Defending champion Ceres-Negros and Davao Aguilas seek to bounce back when they clash on Wednesday night in the Philippines Football League at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

A week removed from their last match in the AFC Cup in Myanmar, the Busmen can regain top spot with a win in their 7 p.m. duel with the Aguilas, who dropped a 2-4 result to Kaya Iloilo on Sunday night.

The match features the biggest names in Philippine football with the Busmen parading national team stars Manny Ott, Kevin Ingreso and Patrick Reichelt while the Aguilas counter with Phil and James Younghusband and Simone Rota.

Ceres is a point behind Kaya with 15 points from six matches, while Davao has 14 points from seven matches.

It will be the second meeting this season between the two sides with Ceres overcoming the Aguilas, 2-0, at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Busmen last played a league match last May 12 when they lost to Kaya, 0-1, also at Panaad Stadium.

In the other match in Laguna, Global Cebu returns to action against leader Kaya Iloilo at 4 p.m.

The Iloilo side is gunning for a fifth straight victory against Global, last season’s runner-up that has struggled to get going this year after key players like Rufo Sanchez, Wesley Dos Santos, Paolo Bugas and Marco Casambre left the club. —CEDELF P. TUPAS
