Alcantara, partner bag ITF doubles crown
Filipino Francis Casey Alcantara and American partner Collin Altamirano crushed Japanese top seeds Shintaro Imai and Niki Takuto, 6-1, 6-4, for the men’s doubles championship of the $15,000 ITF Singapore Futures 2 Friday at Kallang Tennis Center.
Alcantara-Altamirano cruised to an easy opening set win before turning back a hard stand from the Japanese in the second.
With a world ranking of 389th in doubles, the 26-year-old Alcantara could leapfrog closer to the 250s which would give him access to elite ATP tournaments.
Article continues after this advertisement“We were unstoppable out there and we didn’t give them much of a chance to get into the match,” Alcantara told the Inquirer via Viber.
“I needed this win for my confidence,” added Alcantara, who is coming off a shoulder injury.
