PetroGazz’ Tiu out for six weeks after ankle injury

PetroGazz hitter Wensh Tiu is set to miss a maximum of six weeks of action after suffering an injury on her right ankle in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

Tiu, who was underused in the Angels’ first three games, broke out with 10 points in PetroGazz’ five-set win over BanKo, 15-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-9, on Sunday at Batangas City Sports Coliseum.

That game, however, was when the outside hitter twisted her ankle resulting to a peroneal tendon dislocation.

“According to the doctors it will need to spend two weeks of being immobile, it really has to rest for that period,” said Tiu in Filipino Saturday. “We will go back after two weeks for a follow-up check up. A surgery is possible if this doesn’t heal on its own.”

Tiu said she could play in as early as two weeks if her ankle healed on its own but her movements would be vastly limited.

“If I can play after two weeks maybe it would be the bare minimum because I have to look out for my ankle,” said Tiu whose Angels have improved to a 1-3 record.

“Of course I feel sorry for what happened because we finally got a win but I’m sure the wins will continue because you can see the drive from everyone,” said Tiu.
