Sta. Lucia and F2 Logistics turned back its respective opponents and advanced to the semifinals of the Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup Saturday at SM Sands by the Bay.

Jackie Eustoquia and DM Demontano of Sta. Lucia thrashed Cignal B’s partnership of Jannine Navarro and Mumay Vivas, 21-10, 21-13, to set up its semifinals spot in the tournament.

“We studied our opponents, we watched their games so we can plan their strategy against them,” said Eustoquia. “It was our plan to dominate and pull away from the get-go. We cannot let them get close because we know what they’re capable of.”

“I believe our hard work and team work were the keys to our win, and those were the things that we need to bring out when we play in the semifinals.”

F2’s Mich Morente and Fritz Gallenero defeated Cignal A’s Raprap Aguilar and Mylene Paat, 18-21, 21-15, 16-14.

Paat and Aguilar held a 14-13 match point against F2 but Morente and Gallenero fought back to score three straight points with the game-winner being Morente’s service ace.

“We had a hard time controlling the ball especially on our service,” said Gallenero. “The wind was too strong and we couldn’t handle it in the first set. Good thing we adjusted in the second set and Mich just kept going.”

“It was difficult but we just kept our composure, we took it one attack, one reception at a time,” said Morente.
