Marck Espejo made a name for himself when he was still in college in the Philippines when he won three titles with Ateneo and five straight MVPs in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament.

His exploits, though, weren’t reserved to Philippine spectators as the central figures of Oita Miyoshi Wiesse Adler in Japan’s V.League took notice of the Blue Eagle star’s notoriety.

And on Sunday the Japanese team officially turned Espejo into a White Eagle after Espejo signed a one-year contract with Oita Miyoshi.

Espejo will be joining the White Eagles in August to prepare for their first game in October and head coach Takashi Ogawa already looks forward to have Espejo’s practice with them.

“I’m looking forward to playing with Marck, I believe in Marck’s spikes, service, blocks, and receives,” said Ogawa at Buffalo Wild Wings in Conrad Manila. “I think he will give us many wins.”

Oita Miyoshi’s owner Atsushi Miyoshi also has high hopes for Espejo, who is set to face off against foreign players from Brazil and Europe.

“I look forward to his excellent volleyball,” said Miyoshi. “I believe Marck will help our team in many ways, I believe he will help us in many ways. It will be difficult but I will support him.”
