Celtics sign France’s Pietrus

BOSTON – The Boston Celtics signed swingman Mickael Pietrus after the former first-round pick from France cleared waivers on Saturday night.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but Pietrus is expected to fill a void left by the departure of Jeff Green, who is out for the season with a heart problem.

“We are very excited to be able to add Mickael to our team,” said Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. “His skills as a perimeter defender and an outside shooter provide great versatility to the roster.”

Pietrus, originally from Guadeloupe, averaged 7.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 57 games with Orlando and Phoenix last season. He was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2003 NBA entry draft.
