SUBIC — Not only did Zedrick James Borja expected to win, he delivered as well.

Borja topped the 13-14 boys age group in the Ironkids Philippines, taking only 16 minutes and 39 seconds in the aquathlon at WOW Recreation and Activity Center here.

“I’m very happy. The race was really fun yet very competitive,” Borja told INQUIRER.net after the awarding ceremony. “I did expect to win because that was my goal.”

Borja was the fastest to complete the eight-lap swim and two-loop run beneath the scorching heat.

The 13-year-old Borja, who is from San Pedro, Laguna, notched his second Ironkids victory after also winning two years ago in Subic.

Second-placer Ronel Cruz finished 13 seconds after Borja while Clifford Pusing came in third, clocking 17:56.87.

Pusing failed to follow up his win two months ago in the Ironkids Davao.

Samantha Corpuz tops IronKids girls.

Meanwhile, Samantha Corpuz came out on top in the girls division with a time of 17 minutes and 23.39 seconds.

She built a big lead early with a strong showing in the swim before cruising in the run.

Honny May Yanong trailed Corpuz in second while Katrina Salazar was in third.

In other results, Rob Jarrel Balderas ruled the 11-12 boys age group while Aubrey Tom won in the girls category.
