Tacloban played a sweet tune to end its preliminary round campaign, overcoming Pocari Sweat-Air Force, 25-17, 17-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-10, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Shola Alvarez delivered in the clutch and gave the Fighting Warays a 12-9 lead with an improbable last-ditch cut shot that caught the Lady Warriors by surprise.
Tacloban head coach Nes Pamilar was disappointed with how his team would lag after winning a set and he had to remind his players to fight through in the fifth.
“In the second and fourth set I asked them why they would play that way and relax a bit,” said Pamilar in Filipino. “So when the fifth set came I told them that we should change our ways and go all out in the final set.”
The Fighting Warays won their second straight game and improved to a 4-3 record while the Lady Warriors fell to 3-4.
Hyapha Amporn had a team-high 19 points for Tacloban Jovielyn Prado and Patcharee Saengmuang added 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Myla Pablo led the Lady Warriors with 20 points while Arielle Love and Madeline Palmer had 16 and 15 points, respectively.
