Arwind Santos is no stranger to clutch shots.
He once hit a high archer to win San Miguel the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup, and on Sunday the 2013 MVP added two more clutch buckets under his name.
Santos can be considered as the sole person responsible for burying Ginebra in San Miguel’s 104-97 overtime victory as he scored eight of the Beermen’s 11 points in the extra period.
“Those kinds of shots I’m always ready for those because I always practice it,” said Santos in Filipino at Mall of Asia Arena. “I was open so I shot it.”
Santos’ first three-pointer was the opening basket of overtime when he sized up Joe Devance near the right wing with 4:42 on the clock and gave San Miguel a 96-93 lead.
His second triple came two and half minutes after, putting the Beermen up, 102-95, and virtually sealing the win.
Santos’ heroics have been seen throughout much of his career that it’s nothing new to the Beermen.
Reigning four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo wasn’t surprised to see Santos light up when the need arose for San Miguel.
“We all know what Arwind’s capable of,” said Fajardo in Filipino. “Arwind’s a big time player so those big shots are not new to us and to him.”
“God is good,” said Santos as the Beermen improved to 2-3. “It’s like it’s too hard to win right now but it was a good thing we were able to go past Ginebra.”
